The core histones (H2A, H2B, H3 and H4) act as spools around which DNA winds.
Covalent modification on the amino terminal of the core histones through
de/acetylation, de/methylation and de/phosphorylation affect chromatin structure and
exquisitely regulate gene expression.1-3 Histone hyperacetylation is correlated
with increased transcription, whereas hypoacetylation correlates with
transcriptional repression.2
